Nairobi, 1st February 2018 – Veteran goal keeper Duncan Ochieng has been named Tusker FC club captain ahead of the 2018 season.
Duncan takes over from James Situma who left the club at the end of the 2017 season, he brings on board vast experience having earned more than 40 caps for the National side Harambee stars between 1997 and 2013.
The shot stopper joined Tusker FC in 2014, having had an earlier stint in 2011 and was an integral part of the double winning side in 2016. Ochieng will be assisted by defender Lloyd Wahome.
The towering defender is currently the longest serving player in the Tusker FC roster having joined the club in 2013 and recently signed a new three year contract that should take his stay at the club to 2020.
Speaking after his appointment, Duncan Ochieng expressed his joy at leading a club of Tusker’s caliber, while acknowledging the huge task ahead he promised to do his best to take the club to great new heights.
“I am happy and grateful for this appointment and would like to thank the technical bench for entrusting me with leading such a great club. It is not an easy task but I will do my best alongside Lloyd and the playing unit to make sure that we lead this club to great new heights.”
Speaking on the appointment, head coach Sam Ntimbe expressed his faith in Duncan and Lloyd in their new roles.
“Duncan and Lloyd were a straight forward pick for me and the technical bench, having been the longest serving players in the club. They are natural leaders and even when I got here it was clear to see. I have complete faith in them and believe that they will lead this club to new success.”
Tusker FC kick off their 2018 season away to Chemilil Sugar this Saturday.
