Tusker FC were held to a barren draw with Vihiga United on Sunday afternoon in the Kenyan Premier League encounter at their home in Ruaraka.
Coach Sam Timbe's charges needed to win this game after going for 9 games and having bagged only two wins; after a defeat by Mathare last Sunday to reduce the pressure and move at a better position in the log table.
Robert Achema found yet another opportunity after a well taken curve from Paul Odhiambo curling the shot but it just went way off target.
Tusker needed to find a more clinical cutting-edge in the final third if they were to break down a resilient Vihiga defense in the first period. However, it was Vihiga who threatened with Duncan Ochieng making great saves denying them an opportunity.
After the break, Coach Sam Timbe made double substitution introducing Mathew Odong’o and Michael Khamati for Paul Odhiambo and Amos Asembeka respectively and then later Boniface Muchiri was thrown on to replace Robert Achema and to fasten the pace in front so as to get something for the day.
Tusker controlled proceedings for large portions of the second period creating far more clear-cut opportunities but were unable to beat the visiting goalkeeper to claim all three points. In the 75th minute Hashim Sempala’s rocket shot hit the cross bar.
Tusker kept searching for the opener with Hashim Sempala having clear opportunities again in the 80th minute of the game but Vihiga’s custodian overworked denying them an opportunity.
Mathew Odong’o after going past the defenders and left one on one with the keeper he took a shot towards the goal but was another opportunity lost since Tiema was very ready.
It ended all nil. Vihiga united collecting a point in Ruaraka. Tusker travels next to Kericho on Saturday 21st April, to play Zoo FC in the KPL match.
