Eugene Asike’s bouncing header at the stroke of 90 minutes earned Tusker FC a vital 2-1 victory over Gor Mahia, as the brewers opened up a four-point gap on top of the BetKing Premier League standings.

Tusker put up a superb second half fight to pluck the three points at home, with Boniface Muchiri’s delirious freekick having cancelled out Tito Okello’s opener.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Okello directed Kenneth Muguna’s freekick into the net beyond Mike Wanjala. They had scored just after Tusker had two good chances, first Muchiri’s shot from the edge of the area being saved by the keeper while Henry Meja had a shot from the right go wide.

Faraj Ominde came close to scoring the equalizer in the 22nd minute when he rose inside the box to head a cross from Kevin Monyi but it hit the post. On the half hour mark, Faraj turned provider, floating in a cross that Kevin Okoth swung in with a volley, but it went over.

In the second half, Tusker came back stronger and the boys drew level in the 54th minute when Muchiri struck a brilliant freekick beyond the wall and past the keeper, taking responsibility after he had been fouled at the edge of the area.

Tusker kept the fight and scored the winner at the stroke of 90 minutes when Asike bounced a header beyond the defense and the keeper off a Sammy Meja corner.
