Tusker FC striker Henry Meja has been named as the January BetKing Premier League player of the month for January after his hot scoring stint for the brewers.
Meja beat Wazito FC midfielder Kevin Kimani to scoop the award which comes with a personalized trophy and a cash reward of Sh50,000 courtesy of league sponsors BetKing. He was handed over the award on Thursday after the team’s morning training session.
He receives his second individual accolade of the season, having also been named Tusker FC’s player of the month for February.
“I am pleased to win the award and I want to thank the coaches and my teammates for the support they gave me. It feels great but now this raises the bar even higher. I need to work harder to maintain this form and remain up in the scoring charts,” Meja said as he received his award on Thursday.
The striker had four goals and two assists in January.
He scored the solitary goal in the 1-0 victory away to Kakamega Homeboyz, scored a brace and assisted the other two in the 4-2 win over Kariobangi Sharks and one more in the 2-1 victory over Zoo Kericho.
He has so far scored eight goals with three assists this season.
“I have been working hard in training and this has translated to good results on match day. When you score consistently in training, you get confidence to do the same in matches. It was tough breaking into the first 11 but through hard work in training and the coach believing in me, I managed to score more,” the Kakamega High School alumnus states.
