Tusker FC and Sony Sugar FC played out a goalless stalemate in their Sportpesa Premier league clash at the Awendo Green stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Justine Omary and Boniface Muchiri lined up against their former club as on the other end Mwangi David a former brewer handled the Sony left side defense.
The home team enjoyed the early chances, the first of which arrived in the eighth minute and saw Enock Agwanda send a shot wide off the target after goalkeeper Patrick Matasi had put his defense under pressure with a poor clearance.
On 15th minute Muchiri Boniface was on the run sending a cross to David Juma who headed wide off the near post. A corner take was awarded minutes later and all efforts from Timothy Otieno to head in the first for the match proved futile as the goalkeeper remained solid.
The first half ended in a series of missed chances from both halves.
After recess, Tusker made twin substitution introducing Sydney Ochieng and Robert Achema for Boniface Muchiri and John Kamau. They were the only substitutes for the match.
The second half substitutions made from both teams boosted the attack as they were all hungry to take the lead from Awendo. A corner take by Peter Nzuki landed on David Juma who again headed the ball directly to the goalkeeper’s hands in the dying moments of the game.
In the 90th minute, Tusker again had a good late chance of their own when Sydney Ochieng had to strike from a distance making the away keeper stretch further and his solid defense clearing it off for throw in. The game was locked at 0-0 Tusker having a point to travel back with to Ruaraka.
Coach Robert Matano on the game:
“It was a hard match but we played well. You know currently Sony are on their peak but we managed to contain them.”
He continued, “We had enough chances but did not score so what we work in the front line and be more hungry in front of the net. It was not the result we wanted to get but the boys fought until the end.”
