TUSKER OPT OUT OF SPORTPESA SHIELD

Tusker FC will not take part in this year’s Sportpesa Shield.

For the first time since winning the trophy back in 1975, the four-time champions will not participate in the 2018/19 domestic cup competition.

The club’s management decision is meant to enable the team concentrate on the Sportpesa Premier League.Speaking to www.tuskerfc.co.ke the club’s chairman Daniel Aduda confirmed saying, 

“It was not an easy decision to make but we want to help the team concentrate on the league. We have a target of winning the title and want to focus on that.”

Tusker are currently fifth in the league table with 25 points and play AFC Leopards on Saturday 9th March at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos in the next league match.

CHARLES OKERE: OUR GAME PLAN DID NOT WORK

 

Tusker succumbed to their third defeat in a row after playing a 1-0 against Nzoia sugar FC at the Sudi stadium on Saturday 2ndMarch 2019.

In the 40th minute of the match, Ambunya was booked for a late tackle on Hansel. A free kick was well taken with the home team and punched back by Emery with no defenders to clear it further the ball found Wakhungu who slotted in the lone goal and the winner goal for the match.

Coming in for the second half, Matano made changes introducing Michael Madoya for the pacy winger Boniface Muchiri, Sydney Ochieng for Timothy Otieno and John Kamau who was injured I the first half was replaced with Kevin Obwaka. Despite bringing all of them we could not knock them down.

Speaking after the match to www.tuskerfc.co.ke, Assistant coach Charles Okere said, “The opponents came early in the game and penetrated our defense. Today our game plan did not work since they had more scoring chances than we did. “

Tusker FC will play home to AFC Leopards on Saturday 9th March at the Machakos stadium with kick off slated for 4:15 pm.

MATANO-WE GOING ALL OUT

Tusker FC played to a 4-0 win against Wajiji FC in a friendly match at Ruaraka grounds in preparation for their Sportpesa premier league match against Ulinzi stars with goals from Kevin Omondi, Timothy Otieno, Jackson Macharia and Amos Asembeka.

Speaking after the friendly match to www.tuskerfc.co.ke coach Robert Matano was confident on his team’s preparation

“The Week has been fine we have had small injuries but by Saturday it shall be okay.  We are going to win.  Ulinzi won their last game and we lost we have reviewed and rectified our mistakes. We have played a friendly match where we saw improvements. We going all out; we need  three points.”

 

Michael Madoya, Clyde Senaji, Eric Ambunya, Marlon Tangauzi and Bill Oporia who have been out suffering from different injuries resumed training with the rest of the team.

“So far everybody is coming up well, injuries are normal in football as it’s a game of contact. Those who had critical injuries are coming back slowly; we cannot push them so hard but also they cannot come out of injury and go straight to the team but gradually.”

“I have said it before – we will remain focused until the final whistle of the season.”

Tusker travels away to Nakuru to face Ulinzi stars on Sunday 20th January at Afraha stadium. Kick-off is at 15:00.

 

HASHIM SEMPALA NAMED TUSKER FC SKIPPER.

Ugandan midfielder Hashim Sempala has been named Tusker FC club captain in the ongoing 2018/19 season.

Hashim takes over from veteran Duncan Ochieng who will double up as a player and a member of the technical bench.

 The midfielder joined Tusker FC in 2016 from Ugandan side Bul FC.  Hashim will be assisted by Peter Nzuki and Michael Madoya as first and second assistant respectively.

Speaking after his appointment, Hashim Sempala expressed his joy at leading a club of Tusker’s caliber, while acknowledging the outgoing captains and the huge task ahead.

“First and foremost I want to thank the technical bench and the management for entrusting me with leading this great club. To the outgoing captains, Lloyd and Duncan you have guided us and brought us together as a team through your time. It is not an easy task I will do my best with my fellow captains Peter Nzuki and Madoya Michael to make sure that we lead this club for the better.”

Speaking on the appointment, head coach Robert Matano expressed his faith in Sempala, Nzuki and Madoya in their new roles.

“I want to thank Duncan and Lloyd they have been instrumental in the team and as a technical bench we saw it wise that we change the captains and have fresh leadership in the team. I would urge the players to cooperate with the incoming captains as they did before. I have complete faith in them and I believe that they will lead the club to greater heights.”

Tusker FC will play their next Sportpesa premier league match in Nakuru aganst Ulinzi stars on Sunday at the Afraha stadium.

SYDNEY WITH A BRACE AS TUSKER SINK VIHIGA

 

 

TUSKER FC 2-0 VIHIGA UNITED FC

Tusker had their third consecutive win of the season when they scored Vihiga united 2-0 in a highly contested match at the Ruaraka grounds on Wednesday 2nd January 2019.

Midfielder Sydney Ochieng, who has been on form in the past matches was also very instrumental on this one netting his third goal since the season started in December 2018.

He scored a brilliant opener in the 15th minute of the match before doubling it up in the 20th minute of the game after a rebound from the goalkeeper which found Sydney ready to tap it in.

Tusker made their intentions clear from onset. Timothy Otieno was fouled in the 4th minute of the match and a free kick was awarded to Tusker. A chance for Macharia to gift Tusker the lead rather found him sending the ball directly to the goalkeeper’s hands.  

Tusker continued to pile more pressure on the visiting side Timothy Otieno having interplay with Rodgers Aloro who curved the ball straight to Sydney who could not resist but head in the first for the match.

Minutes later, Sydney was back on the score sheet after  a well taken corner take found Justine Omary whose header went directly to the cross bar and the loose ball found Sydney ready to tap it in sending  the first half to a 2-0 win.

Coming back after recess, Matano made some slight changes introducing Peter Nzuki for Macharia, minute’s later goal scorer Sydney Ochieng was injured and replaced with John Kamau and finally introducing Kevin Omondi for David Juma.

In the 71st minute of the match Tusker got a corner take which was well taken by Muchiri Bonface. Lloyd Wahome headed in the ball which hit the cross bar the rebound fell on John Kamau’s legs who sent it flying off target. The match ended with the two goals, Tusker having their third win of the season.

Speaking after the game, Coach Robert Matano said,

“we have started well we lost a lot of chances too and we appreciate what we got at the end.”

 Tusker is set to take on Sofapaka FC on Saturday 5th January, 2019.
