Tusker FC beat Division One side Luanda Villa by a solitary goal to progress to the quarter finals of the Football Kenya Federation Betwat Cup. Henry Meja scored the lone goal at the stroke of halftime to give Tusker the victory and a ticket into the last eight.
The forward slammed the ball into the net after breaking into the box following a neat lay-off from Hum Mieno. Before the goal, Meja had come close twice.
First he was put through on goal by Chris Ochieng but he could not keep his shot down. Midway through the first half, Meja [icked up a low cut down from Kevin Monyi, but his shot after turning away from his marker went over by a few inches.
Tusker had more chances in the second half especially the final 10 minutes. Eight minutes to the break, substitute Chris Onyango saw his shot go inches over the bar while Brian Marita was denied by the crossbar with a neat shot on a first time volley.
Twice in succession a few minutes later, the crossbar denied Tusker once again. Meja’s stinging shot from inside the box came off the woodwork before Mieno was denied same way after rising to head a Luke Namanda corner.
