Tusker FC defender and skipper Eugene Asike has been nominated for the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League defender of the Year award for his outstanding performances with the club, which ended up with him leading the team to the league title.
Asike played 30 games for Tusker this season, keeping 10 clean-sheets and scoring two goals. He scored one of the five in the 5-2 victory over Western Stima and also scored a late winner in the 2-1 victory over Gor Mahia.
“This is a huge privilege to be named among the seven best this season. It has been a very tough campaign but I am really proud of what we achieved as a team. We did well despite difficulties to win the league,” said defender Asike.
Meanwhile, Meja who scored 10 goals this season is among the seven nominees for the Young Player of the Year category.
In his first Premier League season, Meja was in outstanding form especially in the first leg, scoring vital goals and laying assists for the team. He made his debut in December, coming off the bench against Gor Mahia before scoring the winner in a 2-1 victory.
