Tusker FC left back Hillary Wandera says he is elated after re-integrating into the team and clinching a regular starting place after a tough start to the season due to injury. Wandera missed out the first few games of the season after picking up an injury during pre-season training.

“It was not a good start to the season but I am thankful that I have recovered well and I have started picking up. I thank the coach because he has given me the chance to be back in the team after injury and I can see myself picking up. I am not yet where I would want to be but I am working towards that,” Wandera says.

He adds; “I know with time I will be back at the top and playing at my best.”

Wandera has acknowledged that competition at left back is tight with Eric Ambunya who has been holding forte in his absence also doing a good job.

“Competition on the left side of defense is very tough and every time you need to be at your best. If you look at how Ambunya has performed and also in training how hard Meja (Sammy) is working, then you know it s not easy. But all this makes us better with each game,” notes Wandera.

Looking up to Sunday’s game against Mathare United, the defender expects a tough encounter, but remains optimistic the team will continue in its good range of form.

“We are well prepared and worked hard in training this week, knowing we are going to face a very tough team. We have worked on the mistakes we have picked out from the previous game and rectified them and I believe if we step up a bit from the level we played in against Zoo, then we will be a very tough side and we will get victory,” he added.
